Your 8-Day Bhutan Itinerary from Bangalore
The Bhutan trip from Bangalore begins with the connecting flight, hence Day 01 is shorter than the rest. From Day 02 onward, the pace is consistent, with the one demanding day, the Taktsang climb, comes after a lighter day in Paro.
Coming in from Bangalore, you will most likely connect at Kolkata and land in Paro late in the morning. Your guide will pick you up from the airport and drive you to Thimphu, about 65 km and approximately one hour and a half drive through Paro Chhu and Wang Chhu.
You are now above 2,200 metres, so try to keep the first evening quiet and drink plenty of water.

Begin with the National Memorial Chorten, where the older residents of Thimphu make their morning rounds, followed by climbing to Buddha Dordenma statue that is 51.5 meters tall built atop the valley.
The takin preserve, Changangkha Lhakhang, the national library, and the painting school are the other places to visit for the rest of the day. The Tashichho Dzong is the government palace, and therefore on weekdays, it is accessible to the tourists only from 5 pm onwards. It is open during public holidays throughout the day.

The road to Punakha climbs to Dochu La, where 108 memorial chortens stand on the pass, then drops steadily into a warmer valley. Expect about 77 km and three hours with stops.
In the afternoon, take a walk to Punakha Dzong at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, and further to Chimi Lhakhang. Punakha is situated at the height of 1,200 meters, and is the warmest night of the tour.

An entire day out to Phobjikha which is about a 3-hour journey each way from Punakha. Visit Gangtey Goemba located at a ridge, hike along the nature trail to Semchubara and visit the Black-Necked Crane Information Centre.
The winter period for the cranes lasts from around November to February, so outside those months the valley itself is the draw. If you don’t wish to spend six hours in the vehicle then ask for an overnight stay in Gangtey.

Travel back via Dochu La Pass and go to Paro, a 115 km route and about a four-hour trip. In the afternoon visit the National Museum in the old watchtower overlooking the town and cross the covered bridge to Rinpung Dzong, built in 1646.

The monastery lies at around 3,120 meters altitude on a cliff which stands at about 900 meters above the valley floor. The walk back will take around 4-6 hours.
A pony ride will get you to the café halfway up, no higher, and ponies don’t come down, so you’ll have to walk down. You have to put phones, cameras, and baggage away in lockers at the entrance to the monastery.
Wear long trousers and covered shoulders; start early.

At around 3,988 meters altitude, Chele La is the highest road pass in Bhutan, and on a clear day you will see Jomolhari clearly opposite to the pass. Chele La is 35 km from Paro and it’s an hour and a half each way.
Snow will block the road in the winter months; if you are traveling in that window, ask what we have as a substitute.

What the Rate Covers, and What It Does Not
The ₹39,500 covers seven nights of accommodation, breakfast and dinner daily, the Sustainable Development Fee for every night, Bhutan entry permit, a licensed guide, the private vehicle and travel insurance up to age 60.
It does not cover flights. Bhutan tour packages with flight from Bangalore are a common search, but on this package airfare is quoted separately, and for a Bangalore traveller it is the largest single cost after the package itself, because you are buying two sectors.

How to Reach Bhutan from Bangalore
Bangalore to Bhutan Distance
In a straight line, Paro is roughly 2,000 km from Bangalore, and by road the border is well over 2,000 km away. That is why the Bhutan distance from Bangalore is really a question about flights: driving or taking the train to the border is not a practical way to start a one-week holiday. The train to New Jalpaiguri alone takes close to two days.
Bangalore to Bhutan Flight: The Two Routings
There is no direct flight from Bangalore to Paro. Paro is served from only five Indian cities: Delhi, Kolkata, Bagdogra, Guwahati and Gaya, by Drukair and Bhutan Airlines. So every Bhutan tour package from Bangalore by flight involves one connection.
Via Kolkata, the most direct: Bangalore to Kolkata is a short domestic hop, and Kolkata to Paro takes about 1 hour 10 minutes. In total you fly roughly 2,100 km.
Via Delhi, the long way round: Delhi has frequent flights to Paro, taking about 2 hours 20 minutes, but routing a Bangalore journey through Delhi means flying north before turning east. It adds around 40% to the distance you fly, and usually to the time. Use it only if the Delhi timings suit you better.
The Nonstop Option: Bangalore to Bagdogra
It is what makes Bangalore unique among other departure cities. There are many airlines that operate nonstop from Bangalore to Bagdogra, which takes around two and three quarter hours. Bagdogra is the nearest airport to Bhutan in India.
From Bagdogra, the Bhutan border is at a distance of four hours of road journey from Bagdogra, while Thimphu takes another five to six hours of road journey; hence, you have to divide your journey into two days.
You will be traveling on a domestic ticket, and there is no choice but to travel on a particular flight. In return, four of your eight days will be on the road. Our Bhutan tour from Bagdogra is built around this route.
Plan Your Return Around Paro's Weather
Paro sits in a narrow valley and operates under visual flight rules only, with daylight flights flown by specially certified pilots. Cloud and wind can delay or divert departures.
Keep a night in Kolkata on the way home rather than booking a same-day connection back to Bangalore.

Entry Rules for Indian Travellers
No Visa, Entry Permit Required
Indian citizens on a Bhutan tour package from Bangalore do not need a visa for Bhutan, but they do need an entry permit. A separate route permit is no longer required for tourists travelling with a Department of Tourism-certified guide.

For Indian nationals under 18, a passport or original birth certificate can be used, and the child must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

Indian notes up to ₹500 denomination are accepted, with a limit of ₹25,000 per person; above that, carry denominations of ₹100 or lower. The Ngultrum is pegged one-to-one with the rupee.

Festival Dates Change Every Year
Tshechu dates follow the Bhutanese lunar calendar. If a festival is the reason for your trip, confirm the exact dates for your year before you book flights, and book hotels early, because festival weeks fill up.
Places on This Itinerary
Thimphu
A capital without a single traffic light, where a police officer directs the main junction by hand. The Buddha Dordenma, the Memorial Chorten, the Takin preserve and the textile museum are the core of the day, with Tashichho Dzong in the evening.
Punakha
The former capital of Bhutan. Punakha Dzong is where every king of Bhutan has been crowned, and it is the winter home of the country's central monastic body. The suspension bridge and Chimi Lhakhang are both short walks from the road.
Phobjikha and Gangtey
A broad glacial valley at around 3,000 metres, protected as the wintering ground of the black-necked crane. Gangtey Goemba overlooks it from the ridge.
Paro
Rinpung Dzong, the National Museum, Taktsang on its cliff and the road up to Chele La. Paro is also where you arrive and leave, so it bookends the trip.

Culture, Food and Etiquette in Bhutan
A Country Run Differently
Bhutan measures its progress by Gross National Happiness, its constitution requires most of the country to remain under forest, and its tourism policy deliberately favours fewer, longer-staying visitors. The licensed guide and the SDF both follow from that policy.
Dress and Conduct
Dzongs and temples require covered shoulders and long trousers, and hats come off inside. Photography is not allowed inside temple buildings, though courtyards are usually fine.
Walk clockwise around chortens and prayer wheels. Drones need prior permission and are routinely held at the airport without it.
Food
Bhutanese cooking puts chilli and cheese at the centre, with chillies treated as a vegetable rather than a spice. Ema datshi, chillies in cheese, is the national dish and is vegetarian; kewa datshi with potato and shamu datshi with mushroom are gentler. Red rice and buckwheat are staples.
Bhutanese food can be very different from what many Bangalore travellers are used to. Tourist-circuit hotels usually offer Indian vegetarian dishes, and Thimphu and Paro have the most choice, but Punakha and Phobjikha are thinner.

Festivals and Archery
Tshechus are masked dance festivals held in dzong courtyards, the Paro and Thimphu ones being the largest. Archery is the national sport, played loudly and competitively across the country. If your guide offers to stop at a match, say yes.
Practical Notes for Bangalore Travellers
Pack for Real Cold
This matters more for travellers from Bangalore than from most Indian cities. Bangalore's mild climate means many people do not own proper cold-weather clothing, but Thimphu and Paro drop below freezing on winter nights, and Chele La is cold in every season. Bring a warm jacket, thermal layers, gloves and a cap for anything between November and March, and a warm layer for Chele La even in summer.
Altitude
Thimphu about 2,320 m, Paro about 2,235 m, Punakha about 1,200 m, Phobjikha about 3,000 m, Taktsang about 3,120 m and Chele La about 3,988 m. Mild breathlessness in the first day or two is normal. Drink water, rest on the first evening and tell your guide if anyone feels unwell.
Phones and Cash
Indian SIM cards work in Bhutan only on international roaming, which is expensive. Local B-Mobile or TashiCell SIMs are sold at Paro airport. ATMs are reliable in Thimphu and Paro and scarce elsewhere, so carry cash for Punakha and Phobjikha.
Walking Shoes
The Taktsang trail is steep and dusty, with loose stretches on the descent. Proper walking shoes with grip make a real difference.

Cancellation
All bookings are subject to cancellation fees that increase as the booking approaches. There is no refund for cancellation within 72 hours of check-in, a no-show or a shortened stay. Super peak bookings are charged at a 100% rate upon confirmation.
